As
a social entrepreneur, Fiji Dreaming believes
in caring for our environment, displaying concern
for others and acknowledging our social, environmental
and economic impact.
We
focus upon improving individual travel experiences
through implementing responsible travel practices.
Fiji
Dreaming programs are not about group shopping
tours or large coach trips to resort beaches, but
interactive, individual and enlightening journeys.
We
deliver programs that combine the opportunity to make
a real difference with an amazing travel experience.
|
[the]
Fiji Dreaming experience is one that goes beyond all
expectations and is impossible to capture and summarise
in words or even with photos...your passion, enthusiasm,
love and values have been passed onto us all and they
are something we will hold very close to our hearts
forever. I don't think I will ever be able to experience
something as fulfilling as this Fiji Dreaming trip.'
Claire,
USC Expedition, November 2007.

Life-affirming,
responsible travel programs that combine service with
an unforgettable cultural experience.
Participants
live and work in collaboration with local Fijians,
on projects that have been identified by the local
villages. We focus upon engendering a humble attitude
amongst participants and encouraging non-judgmental
interaction. This unique involvement builds bridges
between members of different cultures in the attainment
of social benefit.

Participants
need not be of a particular age or qualification. Fiji
Dreaming’s Education Project caters for all participants,
who are a valuable resource in Fijian classrooms.
All
that is required to teach conversational classroom English
is enthusiasm and generosity. The development of English language
skills is an important step towards a secondary school education
and profession for the project’s primary-school students.
Participants
also serve as an exciting source of information about their
home, history, culture, family and lifestyle, which provides
interesting topics of discussion to aid development of conversational
skills.
Community
service programmes are, however, not for everyone. Participants
typically share qualities such as compassion, flexibility,
and most importantly, the aspiration to interact with the
local Fijian people. Fiji Dreaming participants are
asked to appreciate our Responsible Travel Policy.

In
typical Fijian style, our service programmes are far from
all work and no play. Most of the service work is conducted
during the day, which leaves evenings free to immerse yourself
in the culture or relax in one of the world’s most idyllic
locations.
Fiji
Dreaming programs also incorporate adventure experiences,
including trekking to highland waterfalls and visiting historic
caves. The later part of the program, which is conducted on
the tropical island of Waya, has a recreational focus. This
allows participants to soak up the island life and enjoy some
hammock-time.
Recreational
activities include:

Trekking |
|
Fijian
cultural ceremonies/celebrations |
|
Snorkelling |
|
Swimming |
